The Blood of Christ

The Blood of Christ

(By Pastor T. C. Cronau, Smlthton Baptist Church) Read Hebrews 9: 11-28. God has a positive scheme for redemption of man, who will accept that scheme by recognising God's truth concerning sin and salvation by God's way of salvation.

In Leviticus17:11 God says, "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul." The value of the life is the value of the blood. When it was shed, the sinless God-Man gave His life. The blood upon the altar was efficacious. To the believer there are benefits made procurable through the blood of Christ.

(1) Remission of Sin (Matt. 26:28; Acts 13:38). The Christian religion is founded upon the Sacrifice of the Son of God, necessitated because of the people's sin and extrangement from God, the Creator.
Christ's sacrifice has made possible a scheme of deliverance or remission from the death penalty incurred by sin, from the separation of body of soul from the presence and fellowship of God. Christ's blood was shed for many, forgiving, pardoning of sin, i.e., to those who believe in Him as their Saviour and Redeemer, in a positive personal experience.

(2) Reconciliation to God (Col. 1:20; 2 Cor. 5:21). "And having made peace through the blood of His Cross by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself." Man, by nature, and by his deliberate self choosing, has made a barrier to fellowship and with relationship to God.
By the shedding of the blood of Christ, and man's acceptance of that sacrifice not only is man's sin remitted, but a vital reconciliation takes place; relationship to God is restored and the peace that passes human understanding is experienced by the individual concerned.

(3) Redemption from Bondage (Eph. 1, 7; 1 Peter 1:19):' "In whom we have redemption through His blood." "For I am carnal, sold under sin, O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me?" I thank God through Jesus Christ! The price to redeem us was the precious blood of Christ, the Redeemer. (The Holy Spirit makes this deliverance actual).

(4) Justification from Sin (Rom. 5: 9; 3:25). Much more than being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
Justification and righteousness are inseparably united in Scripture and derived from the same root in Greek. The believing sinner is justifled because Christ, having borne his sins on the Cross, has been made unto Him righteousness.
It is the judicial act of God whereby He justly declares righteous every one that believe in Jesus Christ. It is the Judge Himself who thus declares; the justified believer is now looked on as though he had not sinned. "Their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.")

(5) Nearness to God (Eph. 2:13; Heb.10: 19). "But now you who sometime were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ." A radical change of place. No longer far from Him but now, by His precious blood made nigh, accepted in the beloved. "Near. so very near, nearer I cannot be, For in the person of His Son, I'm as near as He."

(6) Fitness for Heaven: (Rev. 7:14; 5:9). "There are they which came out of great tribulation and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple.
" No plea of achievement or work. It is the Blood alone to which is ascribed power of cleansing to and fitness for the presence of God.
"And they sing a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the Book and to open the seals thereof, for Thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God by Thy Blood out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation." Do you know the.cleansing power of the blood of Christ in your experience??

O! Blood of Christ.
O Blood of Christ, no other price was meet
To ransom souls from hell, from death and sin -
No other blood for man could pardon win.
Jesus but only Thine. O Thou, most sweet,
Most merciful, most gracious! we entreat,
As Thou hast bought us for Thine own, begin
Thy work of grace our sinful hearts within,
And, till that wondrous work- shall be complete -
Till in Thy Precious Blood from every stain,
From every sin, our ransomed souls are freed -
Jesus be Thou our help in every need,
Jesus be Thou our joy in toil and pain,
That so the bloodstained victory Thou didst gain,
Jesus may win us for Thine own indeed.
