Kenya, a country in eastern africa, on the equator. The country is bounded on the north by Sudan and Ethiopia, on the east by Somalia and the Indian Ocean, on the south by Tanzania, and on the west by Lake Victoria and Uganda. Kenya is divided into 47 districts. The country is named after Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa.
Kenya received Independence on the 12th of December,1963 and declared a republic a year later on 12th of December,1964.
Largest river
Kenya's largest river is the Tana.
Largest Cities
Nairobi (the capital), Mombasa, Nakuru and Kisumu.
Language
English and Swahili. Bantu and Nilotic dialects are chief among the many native tongues.
Religions
Protestant 45%, Roman Catholic 33%, Muslim 10%, indigenous beliefs 10%, other 2%
Highest mountain and mountains
Mt. Kenia is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro (ethnic groups living around Mt. Kenya are Kikuyu, Ameru, Ogiek, Mbeere, Embu and Maasai). Other mountains include Mt. Elgon (a solitary volcanic mountain), Mt. Longonot (a dormant stratovolcano), Ol Doinyo Orok (also called Namanga Hills), Namarunu (is a shield volcano), Rotundu, Mt. Homa (In the Luo language Got Uma or God Marahuma means "famous mountain"), Mt. Marsabit (a basaltic shield volcano), Mt. Mtelo, Menengai Crater (is a massive shield volcano), Rotundu, Suswa (is a shield volcano),and Ol Donyo Sabuk (means large mountain in Maasai language and in Kikuyu "Kilima Mbogo" which means Buffalo Mountain).
Lakes
Many of the countries lakes are located in the Great Rift Valley. Lakes include; Lake Naivasha, Nakuru, Turkana, Bogoria and Magadi. Lake Victoria or Victoria Nyanza is the largest lake in Africa and the largest tropical lake in the world. Lake Victoria is the world's second largest freshwater lake and is shared by the three East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania).
Game parks
Of the many national parks and reserves Masai Mara National Reserve is probably the most famous due to its beauty and abundant wildlife and the annual great wildebeest, zebra, gazelle migration.
The people
Africans (African tribes), Asians, Europeans and Arabs.
African Tribes
The main groups of tribes fall into three ethnic groups: the Bantus, the Cushites and the Nilotes. They comprise of 42 diverse ethnic tribes each of these with its own unique culture and identity, values, lifestyle, language and religion.
Some tribes and sub tribes:
The Kikuyu. It is the largest ethnic group of Kenya - Kikuyu sub tribes; Achera, Agachiku, Airimu, Ambui, Angare, Anjiru, Angui, Aithaga, and Aitherandu. The Kikuyu, the country’s largest ethnic group, speak the Kikuyu language and belong to the Bantu ethnic group. The Mau Mau militant African nationalist movement began among the Kikuyu. The Mau Mau rebellion against British rule and European settlers in Kenia took place in the 1950's.
The Akamba, Maasai (Masai), Samburu, Turkana, El-Molo, Kalenjin - The Kalenjin sub tribes; Kipsigis, the Nandi, the Tugen, the Marakwet, the Keiyo and Pokot. Samburu and Maasai speak a Maa language. The Maasai, Samburu, il-Chamus and Parakuyu peoples are in fact historically related and all refer to their language as Maa.
The Luo - Father of U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama II, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. (1936 - 1982) was a member of the Luo ethnic group. The Luo are the third largest ethnic group in Kenya, after the Kikuyu and the Luhya.
Luyha - Luyha sub tribes; Bukusu, Maragoli,Banyala, Banyore, Batsotso, Gisu, Idakho, Isukha, Kabras, Khayo, Kisa, Marachi, Marama, Masaaba, Samia, Tachoni, Tiriki and Wanga.
Meru, Embu, Kisii, Swahili, Taita, Mijikenda, Somali, Digo, Yaaku, Teso, Ogiek, Kuria, Rendille, Borana, Oromo, etc.
Maasai god
The Maasai god is Enkai also known as Ngai, En-kai, Engai, Eng-ai, Mweai and Mwiai. This god that is neither male nor female is also the deity in the religions of the Kamba and Kikuyu. The Kikuyu beliefs this god lives on the holy mountain Kirinyaga (Mount Kenya).
According to the Maasai beliefs Olapa, goddess of the moon, is married to Enkai. Today most of the Maasai tribe are Christians and a minority are Muslims.
Most famous tribe
Maasai, one of the few tribes in Kenya that still hold onto their culture, is the most famous tribe in Kenya because of their culture and the Maasai dance.

    

    
Images. Rendille women and men. The Rendille are a Cushitic speaking ethnic group inhabiting the Kaisut Desert. They consist of nine clans. And their language is related to the Somali languages. Interestingly, the Rendille and Samburu (Nilotic people) have a close connection and they do not steal each others cattle. The Rendille are excellent camel people where as the Samburu and Masaai (Nilotic people) herd mainly cattle.
